Is there anything better than a crisp Midwestern fall? I think not. Now that September is here the weather is starting to cool down and I'm dreaming of cozy evenings with a pumpkin-scented candle burning while I sip down cinnamon spice tea in the new sunroom. The transition from summer to fall provides the perfect opportunity to adjust your decor and add a little extra cozy factor to your home. Today I'm going to share some of my best tips for styling your space for the fall season!
Curate A Fall Porch Scene
Get those cozy fall feelings started before you even step foot inside the front door by creating a festive fall porch scene! You could keep it minimal by simply hanging a beautiful fall wreath on the door, or take it to the next level with accents such as flowers, pumpkins, and a seasonal door mat to instantly get you and your guests in the spirit of the season!
Throw Pillows and Blankets
Swapping out your throw pillows and blankets for cozy autumn alternatives will instantly make your home feel like a fall fantasy! This is an easy and inexpensive way to change up your decor for the season and pull in some of those luscious fall tones! I love muted neutrals, dark oranges, gingham, and cozy knitted or textured varieties for fall - perfect for snuggling up with a good book on a crisp morning with your hot coffee or pumpkin-spiced drink in hand!
Floral Arrangements
Another easy yet impactful update that you can make in your space to get it feeling like fall is to add a fun floral arrangement. This is another wonderful opportunity to highlight some of the beautiful colors and tones found in fall, and who doesn't love having fresh flowers in their home?
Light A Fall-Scented Candle
We've spoken before on how important it is to tap into all of your senses when decorating your space, and your sense of smell is one of the strongest factors in determining how you feel about a particular environment! Lighting a pumpkin-scented or other autumn candle will not only fill your space with a lovely aroma that reminds you of all things fall, but that glowing flame flickering will instantly up the cozy factor in your space (hygge, anyone?)!
Incorporate Fall-Scented Soaps
Similarly to lighting a fall-scented candle, swapping soaps/ lotions in areas that your guests frequent is another wonderful way to appeal to the senses, adding a little unexpected coziness and warmth. A crisp apple- or pumpkin-scented soap in the guest bathroom and kitchen works wonders in reinforcing those fall feelings!
Pumpkins
Is it really fall if you don't break out the pumpkins?! Consider crafting a beautiful mantle piece like the one below featuring pumpkins and various greeneries, or create a festive centerpiece showcasing pumpkins. Earn bonus points by spending the day with your loved ones at the pumpkin patch picking the perfect pumpkins to decorate your home with! Not only will you have something beautiful to incorporate into your decor for the season, but you'll be making special memories along the way!
Create a Festive Fall Vignette
Curating vignettes is one of my favorite ways to add a little seasonal flair to a space! I've written an entire blog post dedicated to vignette styling best practices complete with a FREE downloadable guide to help you create the perfect vignette in your space. You can pull in items that we've already talked about like fall candles, florals, or pumpkins to create a truly special fall focal point in your space!
I hope that these styling ideas help to inspire you to lean into the fall weather and create a festive, cozy environment to enjoy over these next few months! What are your favorite ways to prepare yourself and your home for fall?
