When I think of designing a bathroom, the first thing that comes to mind is ensuring the bathroom is functional, but also making sure it has plenty of style and personality! Whether it's a master bathroom or a small powder room, getting creative with materials and styles will help elevate your space. Below are a few ideas to inspire you as you think about how to refresh your bathroom space...
1. Earthy Materials
Surrounding yourself with natural materials makes the whole aesthetic of the bathroom more enjoyable and relaxing, promoting positive spa-like vibes. Think wood, jute/seagrass, or natural stone in areas such as flooring, countertops, tile, or simply in your decor.
2. Curvy Mirrors
Since a lot of the elements in a bathroom are linear, adding a mix of curved elements helps to break that up and create a softer sense. We think having a mirror with curvy edges really elevates the look of a bathroom.
3. Mixed Metals
From faucets, mirrors, light fixtures, cabinet hardware, towel & TP holders to name a few, there is the potential for plenty of metals in a bathroom. Instead of making them all match, consider mixing materials for a more interesting combo. We love choosing 2 or 3 metal finishes and combining them in an intentional way.
4. Textures
Adding and mixing textures in a space can really enrich your design, in bathrooms and every other room of the house! Examples in the photo below include a wood vanity + mirror paired with a glossy quartz countertop, concrete vessel sink & rose gold faucet. Behind, the glossy subway tile below a painted vertical shiplap and matte gray stone tile floors. Added in decor include ceramic accessories & a pop of greenery. All these elements together add interest and plenty of style without being overwhelming.
5. Bold Tile
GONE is everything gray. IN is bold tile! When it comes to selecting tile for your bathroom, why not choose an area (it doesn't have to be large) to go bold! Bold doesn't have to mean colorful...choose a unique shape, pattern, OR color that reflects your personality and personal tastes.
6. Accent Lighting
Switch out that old lighting for fun yet functional decorative lighting in your bathroom. From wall sconces to pendants or ceiling lights, the bathroom is the prime spot to add decorative lighting. Our favorite way to light up a vanity area is wall sconces to properly light up your face as you look in the mirror.
We hope this has inspired you to refresh your bathroom in a new and unexpected way. The best part is that most of the ideas above don't require a remodel to incorporate! Even a simple, inexpensive update to your decor can go a long way in enhancing your bathroom!
