Many reorganization projects seem so daunting, but they really don't have to be! This step-by-step list is how I tackle my reorganization projects. This list can be used on entire rooms, closets, attics, garages, refrigerators/freezers, bookshelves, pantries, pretty much any area of your home!
1 | Empty It
Clear out everything inside so you can see the space you have to work with as well as all the items that were inside.
2 | Clean It
While it's empty is a perfect time to wipe everything down, sweep, dust, vacuum, etc. It might as well be organized AND clean!
3 | Throw Stuff Away
Before you start sorting the items to put back, go through everything and get rid of stuff you don't need or want anymore, and move things that don't belong in the area you're organizing.
4 | Group Like Items
This step will help simplify refilling the space. Make little piles of the same items so they stay together when they go back in.
5 | Label
This isn't necessary in some spaces, but it can really help you find items and keep them organized if you have a designated bin/basket/drawer for everything inside. Fun Tip: Try a Google or Pinterest search for 'free printable labels' to add some style to your organization!
6 | Refill
Now that you have items grouped, it's time to find their new place inside. When I refill a drawer or closet, I like to put items that I use the most frequently in front or most accessible so it's easy to get to them. Convenience and ease of finding items is one of the reasons I love keeping things organized, so I try to set myself up for success in keeping it organized by prioritizing items before I put them back.
And the unofficial Step #7...Step back and admire, then use and enjoy your perfectly organized new space!
